Prahran College students of the 1960s and 1970s roamed far and wide around the district of Prahran, then a working class area, like neighbouring St Kilda, Elwood, Elsternwick and Richmond, and found contrast in prosperous Toorak or the established, more middle-class streets of Windsor, Middle Park, or Albert Park.
The variety of streetscapes and their inhabitants provided plenty of subject matter and many students were devotees of the street photography they admired and imitated, such as that of work of Robert Frank, Henri Cartier-Bresson or Tony Ray-Jones
